How to Be An Ally at Work: Helpful Tips

Writer's picture: Beth CaldwellBeth Caldwell

Pittsburgh Professional Women members and friends engaged in an insightful discussion with Jennifer Kennedy recently. This important conversation is one you'll want to continue at home, at work, and in the community.

Here are valuable resources to further explore the topics we covered.

  • Book Recommendation: The First Ladies  written by Pittsburgh author Marie Benedict. This novel explores the incredible partnership between First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt and civil rights leader Mary McLeod Bethune—a friendship that changed the world. I listened to it on Audible last winter, and found it to be profoundly inspirational and motivating. The book offers historical insights and showcases the remarkable achievements of two resilient and determined women.

  • Article to Read: Five Tips for Becoming an Ally. This article is a practical guide you can keep for personal reference or share within your networks.

  • Implicit Association Test (IAT) The IAT is a tool designed to measure subconscious biases. Created by Project Implicit, this test offers a powerful opportunity for self-reflection and discussion—both at work and at home. You can take the Implicit Association Test here.
