    • An Online Celebration of Women

While grocery store, transportation workers, medical and other essential providers worked more hours than they ever imagined in 2020, most of us experienced a lockdown. For the first time in our lives we sheltered in place. Those who could work remotely learned how to, and fast. Parents around the world, regardless of means or education learned to home school, many while working. Those who could not work from home faced joblessness. For the first time in our lifetimes we experienced a global crisis.

When leaders are forced to cope with a public crisis, their true character is always revealed. I watched how people reacted to their new set of circumstances in 2020, and here's what I noticed:

    • About one third retreated, saying, "I'll just wait this out."
    • About one third complained, blamed and protested.
    • And about one third said, "How can I make this work?"

During the past year I've paid attention to the women who, despite fear, frustration and overwhelm managed to not only overcome  tremendous obstacles, they succeed. They forged new ways of working, living and leading and influenced others to do the same.

In honor of International Women's Day, Pittsburgh Professional Women will recognize these local leaders during a special virtual event happening on Monday, March 8th at 6 pm Eastern Standard Time.

Proceeds from this event will benefit The Artemis Project, a new initiative of Pittsburgh Professional Women. The program provides  support to families in Western Pennsylvania who are struggling financially because of constraints caused by the pandemic.  Families can receive help with utilities, rent, groceries or other immediate needs.
